r/emojipasta — the lore, decoded

'Emojify' started it, 'right there' rooted it, automation killed it

Emojipasta is where emoji copypasta became ritual and never recovered. Starting in 2015, the subreddit grew through six distinct eras, each marked by dominant phrases: 'emojify' early ambitions, 'oh cummy' devotion, 'thanks cummy' bot liturgy, and eventually pure automation. The 27,273 posts and 145,104 comments show a community that reached mainstream status (John Oliver feature in 2024) while simultaneously collapsing into recursive, semi-automated chaos. Phrases like 'alert alert', 'yo angelo', and 'right there' became ritual summonings as much as jokes. The culture ate itself: the joke became the template, and the template became the only output.
